Celebrating Christmas In Australia

There’s nothing quite like an Aussie Christmas. As you know, we do things a little bit differently ‘down under’ as we celebrate the holiday season in the heat of summer. While the usual Christmas traditions are drinking hot cocoa and having dinner with family by the fireplace in Australia, we tend to hit the beach or celebrate by the pool with an ice-cold drink. No matter how you celebrate the festive season some traditions remain the same.

Decorating The Tree

Now I think decorating the tree is the best part of Christmas. There are so many beautiful ornaments available and different themes you can choose from. This year I will be putting together an Australiana themed tree decked with Aussie animals, wattle, birds and gum leaves. There is so much amazing flora and fauna which can inspire your Christmas decor.

Spending Time with Family and Friends

No matter where you are in the world one of the most important traditions of Christmas is spending time with family and friends. In Australia we celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December. The morning usually starts with some present opening followed by lunch, a nap and then leftovers for dinner. However you celebrate the holiday season, there is nothing better than being surrounded by friends, family and loved ones. It’s a time for us all to come together and reflect on the year that’s passed.

Eating Festive Food

Despite the heat, some people in Australia will still enjoy a hot, roast turkey on Christmas Day but the majority will usually find themselves eating a feast of seafood and salads. For dessert, a pavlova is usually on a traditional Aussie menu. Some families will opt for an outdoor BBQ followed by a round of backyard cricket. No matter how you celebrate, it’s tradition to eat and drink until merry! And don’t forget to leave a beer out for Santa on Christmas eve.

Be sure to look the part when you’re cooking up a festive storm. Our range of Aussie Christmas cookware will be back in stock very soon. This amazing collection features the cutest design of Mr and Mrs Koala Claus and their Australian friends.

Checking out the Christmas Lights

One of the best parts of the holiday season can be driving around to see your neighborhoods’ amazing Christmas light displays and decorations. In Australia they even have entire suburbs that decorate for the holidays. They deck the halls with lights, inflatables and outdoor ornaments and invite the neighbourhood around to walk through a magical Christmas wonderland. Just don’t be surprised if you see a giant Santa on a sleigh driven by kangaroos.
